Thoughts on a Toyota Camry 2009-2011 vs 2012-2014??
Just from a visual standpoint, these are the years I like the best. I'm curious what everybody thinks about these years as far as reliability and longevity. As well as the difficulty level of finding a good one to buy.
Thanks!
The 09-11 Camrys with the 4 cylinder engine have oil burning issues - v6s and other years not a problem. Look at this: https://www.carcomplaints.com/Toyota/Camry/
The 2009 model year had the 2az-fe 2.4 engine and was notorious for bad piston ring/seal design and burned oil. That was the first generation where the quality drop was significant. The 2010-2011 had a lot less of those issues. 2012-2014 is a lot more reliable, but imo the 2007 was the biggest drop of quality in Camry history. I would personally prefer a 2015-2017 model.
I’d go with the latter, because the former had some issues with oil burning.
With that said, as with any used car, have it checked thoroughly by a reputed mechanic, before you buy it.
Good luck!
As the other guy said, the 9-11 had oil burning issues with the four cylinder, but the six cylinder engines were fine on them. I would definitely go for the 12-14 camry's becuase they are safer, remodeled, and extemely relaible with their updated engines, which also made 20 horsepower more and didn't have the oil burning problem again.
