Hi Scotty! I'm planning to purchase an 2022 honda HRV. I'm looking for a good daily driver that I can take on trips. I wanted a CRV but I don't like Turbo engines especially with the oil dilution issues. The HRV is a naturally aspirated 1.8 L engine, so I wanted to see what you thought about HRVs? Thanks!
Even an NA, 1.8L is gonna be strained in a bigger car like that. 141 hp with a CVT will feel very slow and underpowered I think. If youre far from an aggressive driver i guess it would be okay, but with the way honda makes engines I think their new turbo engines are fine, It was only the 1.5L that had issues. hopefully honda learned from their mistake with that engine and makes them better now
If you take a lot of trips, strongly consider the CR-V. The difference in ride comfort is fairly obvious.
In my opinion, the HR-V is more suited as a city runabout.
@InThrustWeTrust is right. The HRV is great for short trips to the store and back. But for longer commutes, the CRV is MUCH more comfortable and a better overall choice.
My daughter has a Fit (which the HR-V is based on) and loves it. They are very well made cars with a good engine and while it has a CVT, you are talking a low powered and relatively low curb weight car (sad to be able to say that about a 3000 lb car). So the stresses on the transmission will be lessened.
