Can you use a party type smoke machine to perform a smoke test for vacuum/ exhaust leak?

That was a joke. Of course you can use anything that produces smoke.

I’ve seen the cigar posted on other car trouble answer forums. I just wanted to be sure we wouldn’t ruin anything with our ingenuity.

You can use a cigar if you want to.
To the exclusion of the smoke machine? Not too much the smoker.
