Scotty I just bought an 02 Durango with 85000 miles from my older neighbor who can’t drive anymore. He Bought it new leftover in 03. It’s the 4.7 with a 5 speed transmission. Paid $1700 and had to spend another $500 to do the trans coolant lines, exhaust, and ball joints. Anything I should look out for with these first gen durangos. The gentleman maintained it well. I don’t particularly care for the truck. Heavy, slow, and awful on gas but It seemed like a great deal. If I get a couple years out of it I’ll sell it for the same or more. What do you think of them.
you could probably make a tidy profit on it if you sell now
I'd sell it now, before it falls apart and costs a fortune to repair. They were not quality vehicles to begin with.
I looked them up before I bought it and had my mechanic check it out. I’ve read such conflicting information. Some people say they’re junk while others say they have 250,000 miles with little problem.
Anyone saying it will go 250k miles with little problem must be telling you that on a Dodge forum or they own one and are a brand loyalist. I've never seen it done. Doesn't mean it can't happen, of course, but my experience tells me it isn't likely. Of course, I'm hoping the best for you as I never want to see someone have car trouble. Especially with something they just bought.
Fair enough. And it was definitely dodge forums.
Too bad it's a Dodge.
Well I mean you got a Durango for almost nothing. Just drive till the wheels fall off. I guess that year those Durangos are somewhat ok.
That’s what I’m thinking. I’d feel bad selling it because they were doing me a solid by selling it to me for cheap.
Well I mean I did gave you a second choice. But it's your call. Most people here agrees to sell the vehicle to make money before something major happens.
I’d roll in it. It wouldn’t be my first choice, but it certainly not my last. IMHO, that’s the design that gave Dodge its look for the next 20+ years, so it’s part of history.
I had an 03 Rango in high school. Went 200k mi with VERY neglected maintenance and rode it very hard. It was a monster.
$1,700 .... that's like 3 monthly payments on a new one.
That sounds like a steal in this market.
I would have bought it too.
