The oil light came on then we lost power and it stalled out. three quarts of oil we put it in thinking that was the problem and it starts, putters really bad then stalls out again

Engine are designed to cut off automatically if the oil pressure drops.
The question remains ... was the oil pressure really low, or did the pressure sensor fail. Only a physical gauge will tell you for sure ...

Did you check the dipstick and determine there was no oil, or did you blindly pour the oil in because the light was on?
If you ran the engine 3 quarts low there could have been some serious damage done internally, like scored cylinder walls due to lack of lubrication and bearing damage. You might want to do a compression test and also drain the oil to check for signs of metal flakes.
