Key Scotty I have an 07 Avalon with 195k miles on it. Lately the key has been getting harder and harder to turn to turn the car on. It's not a steering wheel lock. Is this this starter going out? We had this happen on our Honda Odyssey a while ago and we had to replace the starter for that. Is this the same thing?
I had this happen to me on a 2000 Acura Integra many years ago. It had over 200K miles then. Anyhow, it turned out the teeth in the key were worn out just enough that I could not start the vehicle. When I got home I tried my 2nd key which had hardly been used and it worked just fine and I kept driving with that 2nd key for another 100K miles with no issues.
Try the second key and see if it works.
I just tried that and my spare key didn't work any better. Any other ideas on what this is?
