Okay generally that means that you have a problem with the door latch sometimes you got to replace the latch or sometimes there's just little plastic pieces inside that are worn out that you can buy and snap and play so they don't rattle anymore

There are no plastic pieces on a Ranger door hinge, so forget that comment !
The should be no lateral play in the hinge, so replace the hinge. No big deal. Takes 10/20 minutes/hinge. Get new, not salvage yard.
Forget the machining, waste of time.

Thank you, I’ll probably just do that. I feel funny changing the whole assembly out, but whatever. I plan on keeping the truck, so should I get OEM hinges or is aftermarket ok? Any particular brand?
Get OEM, the steel is about 40% thicker ... OEM @ Fordpartsgiant.com, about $70.00 + shipping for complete upper and lower hinge assemblies. But if you want to get cheaper foreign imports, they're all over the web, cost about 30% less. But you know the old saying, "You buy cheap, you get cheap".
