Hi Scotty,
I drive a 2007 Honda Accord sedan with 280,000+ on the odometer and sometime when I start the engine the car lurches forward and I hear a clunk sound comes from the transmission. It's intermittent but recently it happens more frequently.
Thanks in advance.
Unfortunately, it seems the transmission is going out. Baby that thing to last as much as possible.
Check the engine and transmission mounts.
@yaser
Engine and trans mounts are okey. It's been doing a long time ago but rarely occurs until recently it does more often.
Every single Honda auto transmission clunks, shudders, jerks, and everything, but funny thing is some of these transmissions last a long time lol
You mentioned it got worst over time and the motor mounts seem to be fine...
Check ALL of the motor mounts one more time, I bet one or more is broken, judging from your description.
@mrrangerzr1
I'll bring it to my Honda mechanic sometime tomorrow to check all the mounts just to be sure.
is it a manual or automatic?
people who know what they are doing may need to know this...
@rolengoldslick
My bad. It's an automatic.
Most likely transmission. It served you well for almost 300k miles.
@mrrangerzr1
My initial thought was that it's a goner as Honda's autos of those years are notorious, that's it for this transmission. Then I noticed the same thing happens to my friend's 06 Accord V6 A/T and his brother's Acura TL and those cars have much lower mileage.
These had decent transmissions tbh. Did you have the car since new or recently acquired it?
@mrrangerzr1
I got it in 2009 with 36,000 miles and been using it ever since.
Wow! So you are noticing something new...change the fluid (Don't flush!) and see what happens and baby it.
I used to have an '02 Accord. That thing had 265k miles on the clock. Transmission would slip, lurch, clunk, you name it!!.... probably started around 200k miles. Although that thing never quit on me. I swear it could've gone another 50k and be fine 🤣 Like other people mentioned, baby it. Drain and refill (NOT FLUSH) the fluid every 3 to 5k miles with Honda ATF-DW1 and see if that helps. Good luck!
@toyotaluvr
I used a lot of Hondas with manuals but this one is my first and only automatic. My other 05 Accord has a TSX manual and almost 500,000 miles on the odometer and still rolling.
Yea, that doesn't surprise me at all! Honda just can't make a good automatic.... but things have changed for the better over the last few years.
After thorough inspection one of the transmission mounts is in critical condition, two pressure switch sensors malfunctioning and the linear solenoid is faulty.
Well, better get to work.
Let me know how you make out!
if it turns out it is a trans going out just keep driving till fully dies then go get some junkyard one to put in for like 500$. newer honda arent like the old ones
