When I turn on the car it starts to smell like gas in the rear seats

There is a leak that should be resolved as soon as possible! Check what is going on under those seats.

Definitely a leak...likely from the gas tank or filler neck area.
Don't wait on it as @g-t said...this is an issue you want to resolve sooner than later.

Check fuel pump and line.
