08 Nissan Frontier engine skipping, already replaced plugs.

I've got a 2008 Nissan Frontier 4.0 V6, been a great truck almost no problems mechanically with it. Engine started running rough/skipping/shaking the other day, not something subtle, it was very obvious something was wrong. It would do this while running and while idle.

Mileage is 199k and some change. I had the spark plugs changed right around 100k back before I did any work on my own vehicle. Figured it was time for a new set of spark plugs and did them myself, replacing the intake manifold gaskets and throttle body gasket when I did (have to remove intake manifold to access the spark plugs). I left the throttle body plugged in so I wouldn't have to relearn the throttle body.

After putting every thing back together fired it up and now more rough idle, so I took it for a cruise and everything was A-OK until I got up to about 60 mph then it started stuttering again. Got home and it started idling rough again. noticed one of the clamps for the hoses wasn't all the way in place so I fixed that but it still has the same issue. Any suggestions?

I'm going to bet on a failing camshaft position sensor.

BTW, it's a quick and easy fix.

Scan it for codes so you don't just start throwing parts at the problem.  You said you changed the spark plugs about "100,000 miles back" so it's obviously time for another set of new spark plugs.

I may have misread, but I'm thinking he was trying to say he already changed the plugs again and was still having the issue. But the point still stands that it would be prudent to check for any codes before doing anything.

What he was trying to say - your guess is as good as mine.  Thanks.

Yes plugs have already been changed

Follow up, misfiring cylinder #6. My next step is to swap the coil pack for that cylinder unless anyone else has a suggestion.

At what mileage is the vehicle now?  At what mileage were the plugs replaced?  How's that?

1st plug change around 100k miles
2nd plug change 199,450 miles
Current mileage 199,460 miles

Thanks, did the coil swap help? See if you can get it scanned for codes. It would really help. Free at most auto parts stores.

Going to get the coil today. Already scanned it for codes P0306 which is how I know the #6 cylinder is misfiring.

Did the coil swap move the misfire?
