I have a 2002 Ford F150 2wd with a 4.2 L V6 engine and automatic transmission. It has 160,000 miles on it, and the transmission, to the best of my knowledge, has never been serviced. I know better than to flush it, but can I pull the pan, change the filter, and replace the fluid that was in the pan with new fluid without worrying about it slipping afterward?

That would be risky because it is probably used to the fluid that is in there after 160K miles so I think your best bet is to take out the filter, save all of the fluid that comes out and put a new filter in and fill the transmission with the fluid that came out.
