I recently bought a 1948 Willys Jeep. When I start it up for the first time each day the engine turns over for over a minute before it starts. It easily starts again after that. I pull the choke out before I turn the key. But I was told by the seller not to pump the gas pedal. Any ideas why it takes so long to start?

Your fuel pump is weak and needs to build up pressure. I would change the fuel filter first.
