Lack of power in 4th gear

In our historical car club we are experiencing a problem with a 1969 Dodge Challenger, 5.2 V8, manual transmission.

Is there anybody here who could help?

The car shudders forward when in 4th gear, RPMs go higher, too. It loses power in 4th gear. When we use it as a 3-speed no issues but when 4th gear is engaged, the Challenger is asking for a downshift because the engine is rattling.

Any input is appreciated, thanks.

Sounds like the clutch is slipping under load in 4th gear. The engine rattling sound may be pre-ignition due to low octane gas and/or timing advanced too far.
