Inherited a 1987 Z24 from my mother in law which she purchased brand new. Car has @104k miles on it and has been sitting for over 15yrs. Replaced the coil, plugs, Digital ignition module, numerous relays, and the fuel pump. Got the car running like a champ, well its gets hot but I need to flush the rust and crud out of the radiator and probably replace the thermostat and water pump. HOWEVER, the Digital dash quit working. I've checked the fuse, its good. I pulled the cluster off and tried to multimeter the connection but im not getting any voltage. Disconnected the battery and ohm tested the ground on the pigtail to a bolt on the column and I got ZERO ohms. Internet says that is what ot should be. Reconnected battery, turn the key and even with it running none of the pigtail wires register any voltage.
Im thinking ignition switch in the steering column, although the car starts fine. Am I going on the wrong direction? If im not my other issue is at some point during the 80's mother law had an anti theft Armoured Ignition sleeve put on the column so I cannot get it off or get access to that part of the column. So is it possible to re-wire a new ignition switch bypassing the old one outside of the column or jumper a new keyed 12v source to gauge cluster pigtail and if I do in theory will the gauges work? PLEASE HELP THIS IS MY FINAL HURDLE TO HAVE CONQUERED THIS CAR
@chucktobias
I haven't been able to locate one with a wiring diagram
If you check out the repair manual I linked to it has diagnostic information for the electronic instruments as well as wiring diagrams.
@chucktobias thank you
I did a quick web search for you ....
