I believe these old systems use cable actuated doors

The 5th Avenue was pretty high end in the Chrysler lineup, it may well have automatic climate control with vacuum or electrically operated flaps. These links indicate that's the case:

On a vehicle that old it could be almost anything but vacuum leaks in the HVAC control system would be a good place to start. The best bet for the owner would probably be to obtain a shop manual in order to troubleshoot the problem.

Thank you for the heads up @chucktobias

By repairing the HVAC control flaps and the mechanism that operates them.

I believe these old systems use cable actuated doors and one of them may have become detached.  Look behind the HVAC control panel for any obvious disconnects.
