1990's Land Rover Defender II

I always notice at when watching safari and wilderness programs that almost exclusively used are either the Toyota Land Cruiser or the Land Rover Defender driven on those programs. I have an opportunity to purchase a 1996 Land Rover Defender II for the $25,000 and has a V8 engine with 64,000 miles, color isn't camfloge but a dark green, left hand drive, not an English import originally sold in the USA. What is your assessment on comparability of the 90s versions compared to the Toyota Land Cruisers? Are the Defender's of the 90's Era on the same level? The Land Rover Defender to me is a Jeep on steroids and love the 4 fold down rear seats vers the bench. It's quit roomy back there and seems like it should be used as police swat vehicles lol. I know BMW bought out Land Rrover and I suspect the new Defender's coming back to market aren't the same quality as before but maybe they are, I don't know. What do you think?

Thank you in advance for any replies.

They were much better built than the newer ones but I would choose Land Cruiser long before I choose Land Rover.
