1992 F150 XLT 5.0 Automatic 175k miles. After driving for 15-30 minutes the engine dies. This started happening all of a sudden. After approximately five attempts to restart it started running again. Drove a few miles before it died again.
While driving the truck at 45 mph the stopped running. Attempted to re start approximately five time before it would stay running. Drove three miles before it happened again. Drove one block before it again died. Replaced the coil, cap and coil wire because of corrosion and also the fuel filter. It is still occurring. I am at a loss to figure out this intermittent problem. Any ideas what might be causing this?
Could be almost anything on a 33-year-old vehicle. Probably a fuel delivery or spark problem caused by a component heating up and failing. How much diagnosis have you done? When the engine shuts down have you checked that the fuel pump is running and the fuel pressure? Checked fuel injectors? Tested for spark?
