My 93 f150 brake lights do not come on until I am almost to a complete stop. The switch Ford uses has been around since the 60’s. I see some folks changing the spring in the switch for less pressure to activate. My question, from 93 model year to 94 model year the part number for the switch changed. 93 switch has a purple spring and the 94 has a gold spring. Is it possible this later switch might fix my issue? Lots of folks on the web with this issue in Fords.
Yes, The Brake light switch from the 1994 F150 model year was the fix. I picked up Carguest brand switch and all is working well.mit might fix some older Fords too. I see this switch was used all the way back to 66 mustang.
The spring gets weak from use and age. Just replace the switch.
New switch replaced 2 weeks ago. Same issue.
Thank you….for the moment, I seem to have fixed it. I bought the switch for the 1994 F150…same switch, different part number.. the old switch had a purple spring and the new has a gold spring. The new seems just a little softer spring rate. Maybe one of those Ford.. better ideas they used to have back in the day. 🙂
