1994 Cherokee 4.0 - Keep or Replace

Hi Scotty. I am currently driving  94 Cherokee, 2nd, 4.0 auto transmission. I am the second owner with 161k on it. I keep it up, and it runs good. However, it is really old. Is there anything equivalent out there as far as durability, size and just general usefulness out there now? Or should I just keep trucking in it?

Thanks

I have a '99 Cherokee with about 250K miles. Still runs great as well. The only real downside is lousy gas mileage.

There's no denying that your Jeep is 30 years old though and at some point will be showing its age. (It helps if you do your own work on it.) I'd suggest keeping and maintaining that Jeep until something expensive goes wrong, but I'm cheap and will generally wring the last little bit of usefulness out of my vehicles to the point where the next owner is the boneyard.

On the other hand if you do want something newer those old Cherokees have become somewhat collectible and prices have gone way up on them. (That started happening well before the current crazy used car market.) So if it's in good shape you should be able to get a good price for it which can be used towards a more modern vehicle. It just depends on what you want.
