This is a 1994 dodge Dakota 318 v8, automatic transmission, four-wheel-drive 175,000 miles.

I have a water pump that I just replaced that is defective there is a wobble in the shaft. So now I think I need to replace that water pump although I do not want to have to drain all of the coolant out of the system and I don't want to disturb anything else if not needed. Is this possible? To clamp the hoses off then replace the water pump, or not?

Is this possible?

nope. But it's not a big deal. Just disconnect the bottom radiator hose and let it drain out into a pan.

If you haven't replaced the coolant in the last few years, it's a good time to do it.
