When I hooked my can of refrigerant to the low pressure line there is no pressure at all in the system. The ac compressor and clutch will kick on but no pressure in the line. What do I need to do? Is my compressor bad? I only jumped the compressor for about 2 mins to see if the clutch would engage
I jumped it for about 10 mins with the low pressure cutoff switch and still no pressure. What builds pressure the compressor?
You have to be careful about hot-wiring the compressor, if there is little or no refrigerant you can damage it due to lack of lubrication if run for more than a few seconds. If your compressor is kicking on when wired normally you either have enough pressure in the system for it to run or the low-pressure cutoff switch is defective.
Do you have a gauge set that will show pressure on both high and low sides of the system? (Cheap low-side gauge on some refrigerant cans is useless.) Is there static pressure? If the compressor is briefly run do the gauges show pressure going up on the high side and down on the suction side?
