90,000 mile 1995 Buick roadmaster 5.7L v8
Scotty I am a barber and recently one of my long time clients sold me a 1995 Buick roadmaster Sedan for 100 dollars because he bought himself a brand new Cadillac and I rode a motorcycle every day. The car only has 92,000 miles and runs great. It has no serious codes besides the brake light because the brake booster or master cylinder is shot and the brakes are spongy. The car has some frame rust but the rest of the body and interior is in great shape. I already changed the oil, filters and spark plugs and plug wires but it is still an older car. I have no experience with Chevy products and I know your distaste for them do you feel that I should spend a little money to fix this car or just drive it as is until the wheels fall off and what should I keep a lookout for?
Hard to go wrong getting a running car for $100. GM products were built a lot better back then than they are today.
I'd say whether it's worth doing anything with depends on how bad the frame rust is that you mentioned. If it's just surface rust and the metal is intact then no worries. If the metal is crunchy and holes can be poked through with a screwdriver or hammer then the vehicle unfortunately is not long for this world. (If rusted through in dangerous places like suspension attachment points it should not even be driven.)
One issue in getting the car serviced is that it is pre-OBD2 and a lot of mechanics these days would have difficulty working on it since most scan tools will not work.
Fixing the brakes should be top priority.
them things are TANKS.
fix the brakes and drive it.
great old cars!
I own a 1994 Buick Roadmaster with the 5.7 with 137k miles, they're great cars. Just watch out for the spider multi-port fuel injection system, they are an expensive fix when they go bad. But considering you'd probably get another 100k miles out of the car afterwords, I think it would be worth it.
