I have a 96 Ford ranger I've took out the transmission and clutch...now I want to take flywheel off but the flywheel will turn while I'm trying to take bolt off is there anything I can do to get flywheel not to move while loosening the bolts...I'm doing this alone.
Thanks
Get a pry bar or a long screw driver and put it in the teeth of the ring gear to hold it in place while you loosen the flywheel bolts. Or just do what everybody else does and us an impact wrench.
Unfortunately I don't have a impact wrench..so I'll try to do what you said...I tried it at first and couldn't get it to work...but I'll try again...sucks not having a impact wrench
Perhaps you could put one of the transmission mounting bolts back in the engine bell housing and use your lever against that to hold the flywheel while you loosen it. Let us know how it turns out. I am sure you will succeed. You could also try to put a socket on the bolt on the torsional damper with a long handle against the frame to hold the crankshaft in place while you loosen the flywheel bolts.
