Scotty,
So I have this 1997 Honda Civic LX that I inherited from my Mother when she went into assisted living. It is still a pretty good little car and I'm on board with using it as my daily driver. Since it only has 118K original miles on it I presume it still has lots of life. What I dont know is how well she maintained it other than oil changes or tires, etc. It has an automatic transmission and the brakes appear to have normal wear, so the most important things appear to be taken care of.
What Im having issues with is it seems to hesitate when accelerating and when I apply the brakes, the pedal was going down too far. I had the brakes checked since I thought it might have air in the lines and they found that the pistons were not engaging properly. Now, while it does stop better, the pedal still goes down farther than I would like. As for acceleration, I just think it takes too long to get the engine to engage. I also have hesitation when it is shifting through the gears, but the auto trans. fluid still looks clean. Are there things I should be looking closer at or missing? Not sure if that's specific enough information, but I would be interested in your thoughts. Thanks.
JK

When was the last time the transmission serviced?
hesitate when accelerating
Start with the basics: Clean air filter, clean the injectors, pressure test the fuel pump.

How are the brake pads? Are you sure you do not have air in the system? I would check the brake booster as well.
Dont really know when the trans was serviced but it has clean fluid so at least that was most likely changed. I put a new air filter in and have cleaned the injectors. Have not touched the fuel filter, that would be a good thing to check. Brake pads are good. No not sure the lines have air, just a hunch. Will check the brake booster. Thanks.
