I’m looking at a 1997 Lexus ES 300 with 270,000 miles, the seller is asking $2,200. The only apparent problem is that the third brake light is out. The seller has had it about 2 years and says the previous owner before him did a lot of work around 240K, but does not know if the timing belt was included. Would it be worth buying If I offered about $1,800? I won’t be keeping the car long term, maybe just a few years so I would put a Maximum if 30,000 miles on it.
Thanks Everyone!
I would pass on that car. It has a lot of mileage and it's worse of the bunch of the oil sludge issues. http://www.toyotaproblems.com/oil-sludge/
Is there a way to check the engine to see if it is sludged?
Normally your would check the oil level and check underneath the oil pan. I wouldn't buy that because of high mileage. Also, my grandma's '02 Camry has the same engine as that car and I'm leary on the oil in that car since she doesn't drive it at all.
