Hi Scotty

i have a 1997 Toyota Corolla CE with 120500 miles automatic transmission. The gage panel for H/C automatically started shooting up to H at a cold start- car has never over heated no check engine lights.  I have the proper antifreeze in car as specified by dealer- what could cause the gage to do this? Ps I changed out the thermostat too- I bought vehicle from a police auction with 66k mileage for 1650. 6 years ago thanks Kat

i wish I could attach photo or video

Your temperature sending unit is probably malfunctioning.  They are about $25, available everywhere.

Thank you will check

Here is a good link although dated. You need to measure the coolant temperature to verify the thermostat and water pump are working properly.
