I have a 1998 Tacoma pre runner 2.7L it will click when I go to start it but it won't start 97% of the time, I replaced the starter relay I have a new battery and the alternator is good. I've tapped on the starter and still nothing.. I know my AC compressor is failing, could it possibly be sticking and causing the engine to not turn over? Also when the truck is running and I have the heater or AC on for a few mins it eventually tries to kill the engine and the battery indication light pops up and as soon as I see the batter light pop up I turn off the heater/AC and the light will go away and the truck will stay running, I thought about resetting the ECU but I don't have a radio in the truck and I've been told that if I let the computer lose complete power then it will put the truck in lock out mode and the only way to get it started again is to put the code into the radio.. I'm loosing my mind. Please help, thank you
For the starting issue, check the wires on the starter. Make sure they are not loose. Also check all the grounds for your car.
About the AC issue, odds are that the AC compressor is going out and you need to change it.
Could the AC compressor be locking up at times to where its preventing the engine from turning over cause of too much t tension? And thank you for responding I appreciate it
Yes. Exactly that’s what happening.
