My catalytic converter needs replaced. Hendrick Toyota quoted me around $1700. This isn't something I can afford.
I have one friend that recommends that I buy a bolt on system from amazon for around $130. I noticed that it doesn't have a hole already cut out for the downstream sensor.
Another friend suggest an OEM catalytic converter. The car has about 210,000 miles on it and I would like to drive it for about 5 more years, The 2nd friend says I will probably get a couple if years out of the cheap, amazon system.
I have been looking around on google and I can't find a bolt on system with a downstream sensor cut out.
Can anyone recommend a bolt on catalytic converter system that has a cut out for the downstream 02 sensor that is between $400 to $1000?
I appreciate your advice.
anything that costs $130 isn't a real catalytic converter. It's probably just a hollow pipe. The reason they are so expensive is that there's precious metals inside.
Walker makes decent cats. You will find a range of reviews on these, from they are great to they are crap. Almost seems like luck of the draw
Magnaflow makes from what I understand slightly better quality cats than Walker (albeit a little more expensive)
How much is the OEM catalytic converter? You said that you wouldn't mind spending $1000 despite it being a bolt on catalytic converter system. You didn't mention if this was a I4 or V6 and the prices for catalytic converters on Rockauto are less than $1k which is within your price range.
Catalytic converter frim Toyota is $1739. It is a 4 cylinder.
I will check out rockauto, thanks.
