i bought a 2000 chevy s10 LS v6 5 speed 178000 miles ive heard they are junk and ive heard they are very good trucks. took it to a mechanic he said the engine was in great condition payed 3000 what do you think of these trucks?

Decent price if it runs and drives and isn’t too bad condition. These days most of them are going $4500-6000.
the vortec v6 is basically the Chevy 350 small block with a 2 cylinder delete. Fairly solid motor.
Parts are still easy to find and pretty cheap. It’s not a luxury truck and has it’s share of idiosyncrasies (like taking off the wheels to change the plugs) but usually a solid rig.

Yes, though the 4L60 (turbo hydromatic) automatic is pretty dang bullet proof too. One of the best automatic transmissions ever made (in an S10, who knew?) and capable of handling WAY more than the v6’s power. You can easily do an LS swap with the stock automatic.
