Hi Scotty, I just bought a base model 2000 Dodge Ram with a 318 engine and a 5-speed standard transmission that still sounds great and seems to run fine — no check engine lights. I got it from the original owner for 1000 bucks. It has 336,000 miles and I want to drive it for the rest of my life. Before I put too many miles on it I’d like to change the transmission fluid. Since it’s not an automatic I can change it without creating any shifting problems, correct?

Yes you absolutely can. That idea of "don't change it if it has more than x amount of miles" only applies to automatics. Manuals are totally different. I changed my manual trans. fluid in my 2000 ford ranger with 236k miles. Have fun with your truck! I am more of a ford guy but it looks like Dodges were truly better made before.
