Why Wont a 2000 ford explorer 4x4 4.0 not turn over checked the alternator and the battery has been checked but where is the starter

It took about 10 seconds to find a video showing where the starter is. You could also simply follow the thick positive cable from the battery to the starter. See the FAQ for diagnosing a no-start condition.

where is the starter?
 
It's attached to the bell housing of the transmission, I'm pretty sure it's on the driver's side. This was the default location for starters on RWD American cars for years.
