My 2000 Mitsubishi montero sport ls 3.0L engine . Battery light and oil light show on dash while driving . Then everything dies and the truck needs. Jump to start. The battery is 12v on meter reading and the alternator is 14.3 . What else could it be . The truck starts after jump but won’t go 2 miles before it starts dying lights go dim all power items slow and the truck dies. I don’t think it’s the alternator because it has the correct reading when checked off with a volt meter. I cleaned the battery terminals and posts. It still dies after driving 20 miles . Lights dim it chugs shifting clunks versus smooth transition . I’m stumped could you please help me I’m stranded without wheels literally !! Thank you mr Kilmer you have advised me many times !! YOU ARE THE BEST THANK YOU !!
Well obviously it's not charging the battery while you are driving. So start by having a mechanic like myself load test the alternator you could be getting voltage out of the alternator but not enough amps and it will not charge correctly it needs to be tested by a pro knows what he's doing. Prince just about alternator because of it isn't and you have some type of wiring problem between the alternator and the battery shorting the power out. And of course also have the battery load tested a battery that's shorting out internally will also do the same thing
