2000 dodge ram 1500 5.9l 4x4.    It shift good from first to second but when goin into 3rd it doesn't want to shift unless I let off throttle.   If I let off it goes right into 3rd amd I can give it fuel and continue on. Any idea on what it could be?

The transmission wearing out after 24 years comes to mind. Mileage? When is the last time the transmission was serviced? Is fluid level and condition OK?

@chucktobias around 150k miles. Fluid level is good and transmission fluid and screen has been changed regularly. Trans could just be old and giving out but was hoping maybe somthing else was causing it

@shade-tree-mechanic If it's not something simple like low or dirty fluid it's going to take a transmission expert with a professional-grade scan tool to find the cause.

My 1979 Pontiac does a similar thing, it alerts me that I need to add transmission fluid, but I have a known leak, albeit very small. Check your fluid level. If it's good, your transmission is wearing out, which isn't surprising for a near 25-year-old truck.
