Diesel hard starting when cold

Hi Scotty. I have a 2001 BMW 320 diesel . i got it from my dad and besides a bit of rust is in a good shape. Uses 5.5 lites of diesel per 100 kms rides and shifts great. I changed catalysator, clutch and the entire front suspension. It starts diffcult when it is cold . I went to mechanic and he plugged a scanning tool and said it needs new glowplugs and a relay. It is a 400 euro job here. I dont want to do it as the car is worth 1500 only and i use it only on the weekends( I ride the train to work, as there are no parking spaces in downtown Munich anyways) . Am I risking anything if I continue driving it with this problem?

How many km does it have?

When I first started working as a mechanic at the Benz specialist shop, one of the interns broke the glowplug while it was in the engine, RIP that guy, it was a very costly mistake. You don't want that to happen. So short answer, get a second opinion and if the same thing is said. Yes.
