2001 sunfire gages will jump up and down or not work and warning lights will come on when head lights are turned on. is this a problem with the head lights shorting out or the instrument cluster is bad.
well the first thing you want to do is make sure the battery terminals are tight and not corroded then have the battery load tested because it could be a bad battery.if the battery test okay then have the alternator test a weak alternator can do that too.if not that then you would have to check the wiring going to the instrument panel especially the ground wires bad ground wires can do that. And if not that then you'd need a new instrument panel
Scotty is right on. I owned a 2002 Sunfire that had the same thing happen around 80k miles. Wound up replacing the instrument panel.
