2001 Toyota 4Runner fuel system issue

Hi Scotty,

I have a 2001 4Runner that has been an excellent vehicle and looks like a 3 year old SUV! My first real issue aside from general maintenance is a problem. Had occasional starting issues and the fuel light would come on no matter how much gas was in it and later go back to normal. Our local dealer said it was a fuel sending unit. I paid over $1000 for the new unit and the issue isn’t fixed. It’s been back four times and they say we can’t duplicate the problem. It is sporadic but occurs often. Is it a faulty sending unit or something else. The dealer isn’t suggesting anything. Thanks!

Greg

You need to find a competent independent mechanic, not a dealership, to get to the root of this problem. Probably, because of the age of the vehicle, the dealership is just blowing you off.

Besides, they already milked you out of $1000.

Thanks Doc, I agree, I’m going to pick it up today. Buying a new one in 22 but not from this dealership.
