I’m looking to purchase a 2001 Toyota 4Runner with 220,000 miles on it. The body and interior is in great shape and the engine runs smoothly and quietly when driving it.
The problem is it has a Check Engine Light on, has a TRAC OFF & VSC TRAC lights all on also.
I haven’t had a chance yet to go back for another test drive and take it somewhere to have a diagnostic run to see what codes come up.
So without knowing codes yet can y’all tell me what are most possibilities of the reason why all those 3 dash lights would be on a smooth running engine. Also what are some things to be on the look out for of any red flags pertaining to those 3 dash lights once I do find out the codes?
The red flag for me would be having ANY dash lights on. The check engine light never means anything good.
Rather than try to get opinions here, since you have known issues, I would take it to a mechanic and have them inspect it. Odds are they will tell you to pass on it. 4Runners aren't exactly rare. You can find a better one.
ABS system has a failure.
