2002,, 10th Gen, F-150 XLT, 4-2 /v6 - 4r70w trans,

short n to point .

2002 heritage F - 150 XLT at 311 K.  miles rear end failed , went to hwy. gear . from 3:55 to 3:08 . I live in central Fl. mostly flat land , mostly hwy. speeds 55 / 75 mph . I love the overall result ! at 75 mph I turn 1650 RPM . I burn about same gas , but arive 20 - 30 min. sooner on 1 to 1 1/2 hour trips. concerned i may end up in jail house ! thats another story! HEEEER 's  THE SHORT POINT ??? at low around town speed 45 MPH and under it dogs my V6 . I dont like cruzin under 1200 RPM. every one tells me cant reprogram shift points - and drop tire size to 255/55/16 , well then young people may want to joy ride the old girl . WHAT YA THINK ?  or should have listened to DAD SHOUTING LEAVE THE##**$%## thing alone stock /factory enginered . when back in high school hot rodding was run , sunoco 102 was +- .34 cents a gal.

a little hard to follow, but what's your question, how to avoid it bogging down at low engine speeds?

It needs to be tuned to avoid this issue. The average mechanic shop probably cant do this, need to dive deep into the computer. You'll need to find someone (good) who can adjust for the different rear.

Or, put a 3.55 back in it. That's definitely the smarter move IMO.

You might be able to get away with just manually shifting it into a lower gear when it starts to bog, but that'll get old and doesn't solve the issue. Has it ever overrevved on you?

a pro tune is probably going to cost close to what the truck is worth.

Yep, 3.55 needs to be put back in

Your dad is a wise man. You should listen to him.

It's a poor 4.2L engine with over 300k on it, trying to pull a full size truck. You can't squeeze blood from stone. Live with it.

AND you have highway gearing which was the wrong move, so of course it's dogging it. Put the original gears back or maybe even 3.73's

cant reprogram shift points - and drop tire size to 255/55/16 ,

don't chase bad decisions with even worse ones. Smaller tires directly negates the gears you put it.

Your economy is going to drop further and further. Leave the damn thing alone.

You could always try what these guys did to get better acceleration:
