looking to buy a Toyota Solara. I heard the 2AZ-FE engines have a history of excessive oil consumption. I really want the 4 cylinder solara but the 4cylinder have the 2AZ-FE engine. So What could I do to ensure that I don't have that oil burning issue if I were to go ahead and buy the four cylinder Solara? Is it dangerous to deal with it? Can I inexpensively repair it? Or just don't buy that engine size at all and go with the V6? Help!
The 4 cyl engine is a defective design so unless your going to actually custome modify it and change the defective components I would go with the 6 cyl instead.
I think what matters more is if the car was properly maintained in the past. If you can get it inspected by a good mechanic before purchase then make your decision.. both of these engines are still fairly reliable even with their own issues.
It's just kinda like an internal flaw. Not much you can do after a while besides just feed it more oil every once in a while, if anything you won't have to do many oil changes cause your car will keep burning it up lol just kidding.
If you really don't wanna deal with it opt for the V6 variant as it shouldn't have that issue unless it was a huge problem already on the car.
