2002 4.7 Jeep GC HO top end noise

Hi Scotty.

I’ve got 2002  4.7 Jeep Grand Cherokee HO.

I’ve just got top end rebuild and new timing fitted.

I’ve did It by the book using all new parts except valves, valve springs, lifters and rocker arms. I’ve inspected them carefully before fitting them back making sure lifters are working fine. I’ve soaked them with fresh oil.

Before first start I’ve primed system with oil so no damage occurs.

Starts without issues and sounds fine.

I’ve left it on idle for time being for heat soaking and to bleed air from cooling system.

Took me about 45 min and I shut the engine down.

Next day I was hoping to take car for a spin but while starting it up engine developed weird noise.

What it can be?

Any help much appreciate.

Cheers

Sound definitely is coming from the top. Can barely hear it underneath the engine

Exhaust leak. And valve train noise.

It’s running without air filter atmo 🙂

I’m concerned about the ticking noise. There was no any after first start up

I’ve used new header gaskets

Defintely a metallic sound. Does it actually idle smooth with no miss fire? Almost sounds like a push rod or something hitting the valve cover.

Yes. Idles smooth without misfiring
