A car that is for sale. 2002 Toyota Camry with 179000 miles. States in the ad that the radiator has been replaced but has problems with overheating. Also states a new front end and tune-up. Not knowing how long this has been going on with her possibly still driving the car, do I dare consider it. If I had a mechanic look it over could he tell if damage has been done to other parts of the car due to overheating? Would a OBD scan show anything? Should I pass on this one? Asking $2,500
Thank you
Stay away from cars where the current owner thinks the vehicle isn't worth the time and money to get them into good shape to sell, look for "preowned but not pre-broken". I bet it has a blown head gasket and steering/suspension/frame damage that would cost a lot to repair.
This sounds like what is called a "project" car. They only make sense to buy if you have a garage, tools and mechanical skills.
2002 -2005 Camrys have a bad reputation for blowing head gaskets. Run.
Could be anything from a stuck thermostat to a blown head gasket. It's only worth maybe $500 in that condition, and that only if you can do any required repairs yourself.
No. Too many unknows about this car. Does not worth the risk.
