What is the procedure to remove and replace the low pressure(return) power steering hose?
Does anyone know the procedure?
Does anyone know where I can find the procedure?
Also: Any recommendations on which Brand of part to use would be highly appreciated.
Some back yard mechanics will cut out the bad section of hose and insert the new hose with fittings and hose clamps. This will only work temporarily. Pressures in PS systems are extremely high and should be replaced with proper crimp fittings and crimp tool. Cheapest decent tool is around 130-140 bucks to purchase. If it’s something you plan on doing on other vehicles in future not a bad investment. Call your local Auto Parts places, see if they have loaner ones in their loaner tools. Most just charge a refundable deposit. The you cut off the old and crimp on the new after buying the crimp rings. Get one end crimped, use a turkey baster or something close, fill the new hose as much as possible with fluid before you crimp the other end. Top off your fluid and turn your wheel back and forth several times work any remaining air out the system.
I was looking for the procedure to change out the entire part. rubber and metal connected
Not much to it. Suck out as much of the old fluid as you can before you start and follow my instructions above just skip the crimp part.
He did say low pressure hose. Drain it, unbolt it and bolt new one in, done.
I know, that’s basically what I said do, just a few extra steps help the air work its way out the system faster.
