- Hello Scotty, I have a 2002 Chevy Tahoe 5.3L 2WD with a lifter tap until oil lubes piston after 7 minutes When I purchased it, I had oil leaking on valve cover gasket and oil pan. I fixed valve cover, just not oil pan. At cold starts after it sits for a bit or all night, it has a bad lifter tap until its warmed up and then gets quiet. Do you think I have a bad oil pump and pickup tube? I was thinking maybe pickup tube O ring, or for sure pump and tube with gasket. It has a 6 inch lift and idk if I can remove crossmember on it with the lift it has. I worried it could be something worse. It was only driven 7,000 miles a year and has currently 189,000

With that mileage most of those engines get noisy generally it means the lifters are just starting to wear

Ok, thank you Scotty. Hopefully I have some time and will last me through this cold winter in Oregon. What do you think? Also should I have all lifters replaced? Or just the bad ones?
