I have a 2002 Chrysler Sebring Lxi convertible with the 2.7 Liter V6. My car has 59000 miles and has trouble accelerating while in drive. It will accelerate up to 3000 RPMs very easily but has trouble getting to 4000 RPMs. The car did sit for a while and was run on bad gas. I do not know if the car's fuel filter is clocked or the fuel injectors are clocked, but that is my guess. There are no check engine codes and the car idles at about 750 RPMs. It would be nice to have someone give me some suggestions before getting the car checked out by a professional mechanic.
With no codes its hard to make any kind of precision diagnostic line of correction. If you suspect the fuel filter..just remove it and then drain it...clean one end of the filter and bloe thru it with your mouth...if you can expel your breath or any gas within....its not clogged in any way. if its hard to expel..your meeting resistance and the filter should be replaced. Another is if you suspect 'Bad" gas....then you should fil car with premium gas to see if you can dilute the old gas. Test drive and see if you had effected any positive changes. More than likely...it will stay the same but at least you know whats good if you did the above. then go from there.
Are you original owner or is this a used car?
and how long did it sit , outside or in a garage?
running on bad gas, may have water in the fuel filter or tank...which would prevent higher rpms.
fill it with 93 octane or better and run it outside for 30 min.
I have had it for a year and half and it had run like this. I am the second owner. I have no idea how long the other owner let it sit outside.
