2002 ford f150 5.4L 4x4 . I drive my truck daily and never had any symptoms of a bad transmission or anything till now. I was driving in 4x4 on the beach and my truck seemed to just start slowing down till it was getting no where . Shut it off started it back up and would drive fine for a minute then do the same thing. Now I have no gears besides reverse and drive will work for a few seconds if I start in neutral. What do I check for?

What do I check for?
Assuming fluid level is OK check for the price of a replacement transmission.
