I have an automatic 2002 ford focus, with 180k miles, that is having a check engine light issue. My dad, a mechanic, said it is an evap issue. I am trying to save money and keep my car as long as possible with interest rates. Do you think it is worth it to try and fix my car before I have to smog my car in June?
Do you think it is worth it to try and fix my car
that depends on what your car is worth (condition, how it runs, how it was maintained etc.), and what the fix is.
If it just needs a new gas cap , then yeah probably. But a Focus with 180k doesn't have much life left in it.
Can't really tell you without the full trouble codes and descriptions.
If your dad is a mechanic, then he should be able to give you a diagnosis and cost estimate for repair.
