Power to the flashers is getting through the switch somehow.  Inspect the wiring for looseness and connections and replace the switch if necessary.

Solved!  After much research and additional observations, here is what I found.  I connected the new 12 volt batteryand  the four flashers would flash at a higher than normal flash rate.. I had to manually unlock the drivers door because the fob battery was dead.. After to ignition switch was in the on position when I activated the turn signal lever the flashers would only flash on the selected side at a normal rate for both left and righ as is normal operation.  When I activated the flasher switch the flash rate would rediuce to the normal rate.  Here is the weird part; the combination of the new 12 volt battery,  the dead battery ain the fob and using the key to mauually to open the drivers door caused the car to go into an "emergency mode" that caused the flashers to flash at a high rate and NOT turn off.  The solution was to put a new battery in the fob, pair the fab to the car and use it to unlock the car.

Thanks for the update and congrats!
