Should I rebuild or replace my engine

I have a 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.8 V6 with a complete Braun Mobility package including hydraulic that lowers the van's right side and auto opens the side door unfolding a ramp. I also have a locking chair system installed on the passenger side so the mobility chair can drive up and lock into the position.

I just had my air serviced and the shop told me I needed either a new van or a new engine. I'm just looking for advice on what to do.  My wife has ALS, " Lou Gehrig's Disease " and the Mobility Van is a necessity. Due to the COVID-19, my credit is tanked and I am having to file a chapter 7 bankruptcy, which makes purchasing a new van out of the question.

Should I try to find a rebuilt engine or find a good mechanic who can rebuild the engine in the Van. The current engine has about 145K miles. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

call your local auto recycler and see if they have any decent engines. It'll cost around $1k to install it. Forget rebuild.
