2003 gmc sierra 2500hd shifting funny

i have a 2003 gmc sierra and for a few months its been shifting a bit odd, think my transmission could be slipping, mostly does it when the engine is colder and not at operating temp, whenever i go from reverse and switch to drive it takes a couple seconds for it to actually move forward rpms go up but doesnt move for a second, usually around 1st to 2nd gear shifts a bit rough as well while not at operating tempature, once it is up at operating temp it drives fairly smooth

Always post your odometer per the instructions please

A bit of delay or rough engagement when cold is very normal for a lot of transmissions. Just wait for it to warm up.

Have you been servicing it regularly?

its at 178000 miles so far

sounds like normal high mileage transmission things

You did not state mileage. Has the transmission been serviced regularly over the last couple of decades? Is fluid at the correct level and in good condition?

its at 178000 miles so far, think its been serviced at 150000 or 160000 miles from what i remember, my grandfather used to have the truck so im not sure if it has had other services on the transmission, just topped it off today as well was a little bit low, added 1/4 of a quart, i do have a small transmission leak on the shaft seal as well
