Hey there Scotty, love the channel

Long time watcher/ listener here. I just picked a 2003 Matrix in great condition, 175,000mi, runs and shifts good. I noticed the trans fluid is dirty on the dipstick, what do you recommend with an older transmission?, not knowing the previous maintenance. Fluid and filter change? Use new fluid? Or reuse old fluid and new filter? Or just leave it be... I just want to keep this car in good shape. Anyway thats all I needed.

Thanks!

Do a drain and fill. The pan on that should have a drain plug. Those cars don't have a filter that you have to worry about. They also don't shead friction material so you don't have to worry about the transmission slipping as a result of changing the fluid.

Sounds good. Thanks a bunch for the help. Good to know about the filter.

And use the OEM fluid, along with everything else billybob says.
